Keep getting Fehler 31:General Failure

Hi all,

after a search I can't find any information on this error code and message.

I am on the latest macOS Tahoe and Syncovery v11.15.8

The job that is reporting the error is running under root and is a simple left to right mirror from local folders to another local folder on the same HD. Here are some example lines from the log:

These are all local mailboxes (folders) inside the Apple Mail App.

Does anyone have a hint?

I believe the log file should contain a more detailed error further up - can you check and/or send a complete log file to support at syncovery.com?

I don't have the logfile anymore. Anyway, this was a temporary test job.

I cloned it twice now, kept the selection of left side paths and changed the right to my QNAP NAS for the first clone and to pCloud for the second. So far the first run seems good. As it is quite huge especially the second one still needs some time. I will report back here if the problem comes back.

Now after several tries of myself I am out of clues for subsequent backups to my NAS.

It fails with:

Durchlauf Nr. 1 um 01.06.26 08:02:53: Fehler bei Zugriff auf /Volumes/MBP_Backup-1/Syncovery: Permission Denied Sie können Syncovery möglicherweise Zugriff auf diesen Ordner geben, und zwar in den macOS Systemeinstellungen unter Sicherheit & Privatspäre, auf dem Registerblatt Privatsphäre.

I tried with restarting the job and also restarting both devices the NAS and the Macbook.

I will mail the full log as asked before.

I have now released Syncovery 12 for Mac, which has its own internal SMB client that should work much better with network drives.

Just click the SMB button and choose "Use Internal SMB Client".

I hope you will notice a big improvements.

This is a free upgrade for licenses ordered on or after May 1, 2025.

Hi Tobias,

yes, it works perfectly and fast, even with a backup load of around 250GB to external storage it did the first sync in a reasonable amount of time. Bottleneck was mostly my upload speed.

But: another backup to a local QNAP share stalls the NAS even with delta backups (QTS 5.2.10.357) The web GUI becomes unresponsive, the NAS is unreachable via SSH and even the front display on the device shows a blank screen resulting in being forced to hard reset it.

I have the latest SMB updates installed on the NAS. I have SMB 3 active and SMB 2 optional. I am using the internal SMB client of Syncovery.

Hello,
well, Syncovery is not responsible for performance issues of a NAS.

Does it occur during the scanning phase or during the copying phase?

Maybe you need to reduce the number of files being copied in parallel.

I will make more tests with QNAP next week.
