One Way Copy Of Disk Images From NAS To PCloud Storage

Post by MrPiglies »

HI.
I have set up a profile to copy the disk images of my PC from my NAS drive to my Pcloud cloud storage account.
However, after reading the help, I am unsure if I have set it up to operate in the most efficent/fastest manner.
My criteria are the following.
1) Verification of the files and folders on the NAS drive is NOT required as they have already been verified by the software that has backed the disk images up from my PC to my NAS drive.
2) Compression is NOT required, the files and folders have already been compressed by the software that has backed the disk images up from my PC to my NAS drive.
3) Encryption is NOT required, the files and folders have already been encrypted by the software that has backed the disk images up from my PC to my NAS drive.
4) Verification of the files and folders after being copied to the PCloud cloud storage IS required.
5) If any disk image is deleted on the NAS drive it IS NOT to be deleted on the Pcloud storage.
6) The software only backs up any incremental changes to the disk on my PC as a disk image every 7 days to the full image on my NAS drive. So I only want to copy any incremental changes to the disk image on my NAS to the copied full disk image on my Pcloud cloud storage.
7) I am treating the storage of the disk images on the Pcloud as "Cold Storage". I will only want to get them back if my PC goes bang and for what ever reason I am unable to recover them from NAS drive or my other storage location.
8) Please see the attachment for my current settings. Are this correct for what I am trying to achive? If not what do I need to add/alter/remove?
Thank you.
Roger

I am having trouble getting all of the screen shots in .png to appear in the message, there are 10 pages all together.

Hello,
OK - a lot of settings changed from the defaults. Let's check if all of that is really needed.

Question first: do new or updated images always have a new file name, or does the imaging software update existing image files in place?

This is important to know so we can decide if existing images must be backed up on a block level, or if we simply need to upload all new image files.

Independent of your reply to my question, here are some changes which are definitely needed:

Please remove the checkmark "Do not scan destination" from the tab sheet "Files".

If you need verification after upload, you need to go to the "Verification" tab sheet and choose:
- Verify copied files (can double execution time)

Please remove all checkmarks from Verification->File Integrity. These options are not good for disk images.

You only need anything from the main "Verification" tab sheet but not from the second tab sheet "File Integrity".

Hi.
The imaging software creates a new file name for each image copy that it copies to the NAS, whether it is a full copy or an incremental copy.
The files name is alpha numerical and it also contains the date, the Full Copy ends 000 and the incremental copies start with 001 at the end, and increment by 1 for each incremental copy, 002, 003 etc.

The changes to the defaults are most likely due to me not understanding correctly the help web page instructions and the instructions on each tab.
Thank you.

Hello,
great. So in addition to the previous changes, there's more to do.

The upload will be very simple and anything related to versioning or Block Level Copying / Synthetic Backup is not applicable to this job.

The files should be uploaded 1:1 as they are without much processing by Syncovery.

Therefore, please remove the following checkmarks:
"Versioning" -> "Filename Encoding"
"Versioning->Synthetic Backup": "Use Synthetic Backup"
"Compression"->"Compress Each File Individually".

Finally, if you might have any non-English characters in folder or filenames, remove the checkmark "Case Sensitive Mode" under "Main Settings". This is due to a specific issue with pCloud that occurs only with foreign characters in Case Sensitive Mode.

------

In fact, if you start with a new profile, you only need to make very few changes to the defaults:
- remove Case Sensitive Mode
- give it a schedule
- split large files to 2G Bytes (under "Files")
- verify copied files (under "Verification")

That's it. Any other changes from the defaults are either not needed or not good.

The only remaining aspect to consider is if you want to keep all images forever and possibly clean up manually to prevent the pCloud drive from becoming full?
