FOLDER DELETE, but FILE MOVE, can't do it

Post by Contractor5Prepays9 »

left-right,and right-left copying

i want LEFT to be primary.

so i run in ATTENDED mode. there is a FOLDER, EXTINCT POLICIES, that should no longer exist. it DOES NOT exist on left, i want to delete it on RIGNT.
BUT, it has FILES in it that need MOVED first, to a DIFFERENT RIGHT-SIDED location.
SO, i have to DELETE the folder on right,and it deletes the FILES on right.
I THEN have to re-run it and it copies those files over - BUT, is there a way to get the INITIAL operation to MOVE the files, then delete the folder?

i can live with current scenario, but it would be nice if i could save a step
thanks

NOTE, IMAGES, not sure if in order- first slide should show the MOVE possibility, next is the DELETE selection, third is the COPY selection

Theoretically it should be a one-step operation, maybe try the latest Syncovery update.

latest version
teh SHUFFLEBOARD folder is DELETED on the left. in this 2-way clone, syncovery wants to COPY the folder to the left. NOT WHAT I want, i want to DELETE it

it CORRECTLY has the MOVES, for all the files, to be done on the right.

if I right click and mark SHUFFLEBOARD for DELETE, ALL the files below it change to DELETE. I have to select THEM, right click, and click "DO ORIGINAL ACTION"

any way to right click the FOLDER, mark it for DELETION, but still have the FILES stay as MOVE, or is the operationS i did above the only way to do this? I can live with that if neccessary
thanks

That's a tough corner case, I will try to improve it.

If you use SmartTracking, it should normally detect the deletions automatically. But you need to click the Configure button to specify what should happen with deleted files.

it is tough, the sets of folders i'm cloning/mirroring sometimes have som complicated changes.
BUT, i AM able to work with syncovery to handle them, i thought i'd pass this on, not sure what rule to create that would handle this.

if NOT able, i can continue as i'm doing, just have to pay close attention to it

thanks

Not trying to hijack this thread but I feel like my issue is possibly the same based on the subject line, however not sure my issues is the same as Nick is asking about...

But i was doing some archive reduction and wanted to delete folders/files in a destination that no longer exist in the source.

However as a test, just for safety instead of deleting them permanently i wanted to move the files marked for deletion into a folder '/Archive'

I am not sure if i have the setup correct but i selected the option in Files to 'Move Deleted Files Into A Specified Folder..' and set the folder to '/Archive' which should create a folder and put it in the root directory. But nothing was moved and the files were just deleted. (thankfully fine as i just did this on a set of test files)

But wanted to know if i was doing something wrong in my setup or if this feature won't work on a cloud destination (backlaze b2)

Log of the sync has this:

[Files->Deletions]
RecycleDeletedFiles=No
MoveDeletedFilesIntoFolder=Yes
DeletedFilesFolderR=/Archive
AvoidDeletionDoubleChecksCompletely=No

Thanks,

Richard

are you able to SEE the \ARCHIVE folder on the right, if you browse the directory? (check your whole tree, in top couple levels, to make sure it is not missed)

then, set up a test folder on left, add a test file, do a sync to the right, make sure the file got copied.
then delete on left, and then re-run your profile to see if it deletes/moves it on the right.

it's worth an experiment :-)

No \Archive folder was created for me at any level in the directories in the destination. The log shows nothing was moved vs deleted.

I am not sure i really understand setting up and \Archive folder on the L (source side) in the settings. What does that do given the files will have already been deleted on the source side.

sorry for confusion, i meant to make sure on RIGHT side (destination) that you can SEE the \archive folder;
OR, if you can't see it, create one, then see if the scenario works (create, copy , delete on left, then see if it deletes/moves it on right

hmm it might be to do with backblaze and empty folders as the folder would be empty to start. but i don't want to be having to create a folder manually on the destination where the deleted files need to go.

@tobias am i doing something wrong in my setup?
