I have a directory backed up to Google Drive, with the names encrypted. I'd like to move that directory to another one on Google Drive that already exists, but also has an encrypted name.
What's the best way to do this? Surely I don't have to re-upload many GB of files.
I really wish Syncovery had a "file explorer" function that allowed me to easily view and work with encrypted backups on cloud storage.
Moving encrypted backups on Google Drive
Re: Moving encrypted backups on Google Drive
Hello,
the best way is to use the Google Drive web interface to move the folder. Are you able to identify the source and destination folder?

That's the thing -- all the names are encrypted, so in the web interface, I don't know what's what.
Re: Moving encrypted backups on Google Drive
One way to find out which encrypted folder is which normal folder is by looking into log files, for example if a file has recently been uploaded to a subfolder, you should be able to see the folder name in the log file.
Or you could create a new log file with all details by choosing "File List Building Details" on the Program Settings dialog, tab sheet Logs. This log file will be huge, however, but if you do it only once, it should help.
I hope I can eventually come up with a better solution.
In general, try to avoid encrypted filenames unless absolutely necessary. I implemented this for customers who wanted it but would never use it myself.

Re: Moving encrypted backups on Google Drive
Yeah, thank you, I figured it out at the time. I'll continue using encrypted file and folder names. The thought of using plaintext names on Google Drive makes me nauseous.
Re: Moving encrypted backups on Google Drive
Hello,
the new Syncovery 11.6.6 has a new feature that can help in some cases and also enables you to get a better feeling about how the filename encryption works.
Via the Tools submenu in the Sync Preview, you can now choose to show encoded and encrypted filenames in addition to the clear text ones. This also works in the Static HTML Preview but is not available in the Dynamic Preview.
