Can't send notifications through Gmail on Asustor NAS

Post by patbrown »

Hi,
I recently switched from a QNAP server to an Asustor. I was able to configure everything except the email notifications. I use smtp.gmail.com as the server, port 587, my full email address as the login and the app password configured in my Google account. I tried the different TLS versions with or without the explicit TLS checkbox. I either get "Connection Closed Gracefully" with the explicit TLS or "Error connecting with SSL.
error:0A00010B:SSL routines::wrong version number" without it. How can I make this work?

Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention I have the same results with port 465. And I also have the "Use SMTP Authentication" checked.

I have the exact same problem.

Allthough I get just the "Connection Closed Gracefully" error every time.

Maybe the OpenSSL version on the Asustor is too old.

But you should not depend on Gmail alone anyway. A simpler email account would be better, like those from traditional webspace providers.

You could try "Use SecureBlackBox SSL rather than OpenSSL" on the Cloud tab sheet though. I am not sure if this will affect email connections though, and if it can work, and if it takes effect immediately or only after a reboot.

I might be able to look into it some time next week.

Hello,
I have released Syncovery 11.12.13 for ASUStor now. It includes a newer OpenSSL version (for Intel 64 bit only), and it can also log SSL problems better.

Here's example settings for Gmail. You need to create an app password according to instructions here:
