Synology DSM7 Support

I saw that Syncovery is missing from Synology's list of supported 3rd-party packages for DSM7.

https://www.synology.com/en-us/knowledg ... kages_beta

Is DSM7 compatibility planned? I understand that this would require separate packages for DSM7 and pre-DSM7 installations.

Hello,
yes, I hope we will have such packages soon.

Hello,
DSM 7 compatible packages are working now and will be available for download very soon.

With the new packages, Syncovery will run as the "Syncovery" user and by default won't have access to any folders. You can grant access in the Synology File Station, and you must make sure to apply the permissions to all subfolders and files too. This can take a while. I will also provide alternative instructions to do it in an SSH shell.

There will also be a new installation tool for Windows that installs Syncovery on all kinds of NAS and Linux boxes. This will be able to update Syncovery on DSM 7, from an older installation, while preserving the "root" privileges.

Hello Everybody,

you can now download native Synology packages for DSM7 on our web site:
https://www.syncovery.com/syncovery9synology/

Be sure to read the notes. Existing profiles may not run until you have given Syncovery access to the shares and folders. This is done in File Station in the Synology DSM.

There is a problem with some Sinology NAS units not keeping the permissions after a reboot with version 7. I have seen they are only saying this will be fixed in this small number in the release version of 7.

Hello,
interesting. Well it's very easy to give root rights to Syncovery again, on DSM 7. I will publish a tool for that soon.

Our new unified Syncovery Linux Installer is now available. This is a little tool than installs or updates Syncovery on Linux boxes, including many NAS models. It runs on Windows and needs SSH access (such as admin). When installing on a Synology DSM 7 box, it will ask you if Syncovery should run as root or not.

The new installer also supports many new brands, including ASUS, Netgear, Seagate, Thecus, and Zyxel. Separate native installers for Western Digital are now also available.

Please check it out under https://www.syncovery.com/download/linux/.

I tried the installer and you must excuse my lack of knowledge on what to do with any of this, but I expect I am probably not the only one lost. I have Synology on a Synology NAS and at present the usefulness of updating via the Linux Installer is not great as I don’t need to reapply the access permissions which you apparently you may need to usingsome NAS devices with version 7. Hopefully by the time, at some distant future date, version 7 is released once applied permissions may hold once applied when new updates are installed so could carry on directly updating as now.
But the instructions on how to get the installer working are a total mystery to me and my query is would it be possible for someone to come up with instructions on how to get it to work for updating NAS from a networked Windows 10 PC or is this, given the range of devices supported not possible?

Hello,
first, you need to enable SSH access in the Synology DSM Control Panel under "Terminal & SNMP". Choose

X Enable SSH service

the port is normally 22.

Then download the Syncovery Linux Installer and open/run it.

Enter the local IP of your NAS, for example 192.168.1.33.

Enter the admin credentials, for example admin and your admin password.

Click Go and you're done.

If there are problems, please send detailed error messages or a detailed error report here or to support@syncovery.com.
