Keep uploading

Post by leungda »

Hi,

I have two profiles that keep uploading all files again and again to the FTP server. Do you have any idea what is going on?

Hello,
you need to run the job manually and take a look at the Sync Preview.

Does Syncovery see the files at the destination, or are the date and size columns empty for the FTP side?

Are the timestamps or sizes off? If yes, by how much? Are they newer or older on the destination?

Frequent timestamp problems with FTP include:
a) not being able to retain the files' original modification dates,
or
b) timezone offsets

For both problems, you will find settings on the second tab sheet of the Internet/FTP dialog. You can try to force setting timestamps even if the server doesn't seem to support it, and you can play with FTP Listing Commands and timezone offsets. The listing command MLSD will use UTC times which should be independent of timezones and may fix the issue.

If the FTP server does not allow setting the timestamp for files, you can use "Filename Encoding" in Syncovery, which will add the timestamps to the file names. But this is only possible if you can live with mangled filenames on the FTP server.

Another cause could be if the files are processed and removed on the destination, so that Syncovery wants to re-upload them every time. A way to avoid that would be using SmartTracking, or using the two archive flag checkmarks under "Masks & Filters" -> "General Filters".

Try the recommendation. it still uploading the whole thing again and again.
I did:
1. force setting timestamps (now both side have the same timestamps)
2. use SmartTracking
- Adjust file location on the right side,
- conflicting -> always copy left to right

Hello,
you need to run the job manually and take a look at the Sync Preview.

The Sync Preview shows the reason why a file is uploaded. For example, the file details do not match, or Syncovery does not see the file on the destination.

Please send your analysis and/or a screenshot of the Sync Preview.

Of course there can be many other causes for repeated copying, for example if you choose "Do not scan destination" in the profile, or "Always copy the files". The quickest way for me to analyze incorrect profile settings is if you send a log file to support@syncovery.com, or even post it here (after removing personal info). Each log file contains the profile settings at the end, so I can quickly see if there's anything wrong.

It is always import to include as many details as possible in a problem report, including a screenshot of the Sync Preview, as well as sample file names.

For example, if you have encoded filenames on the source side, like Invoice.d20061216-u121650.doc, then you need to go to the tab sheet Versioning->More and make sure "Do not decode filenames" is checked for both sides. In that case you also can't use compression or encryption, because Syncovery does not support double-encoding of filenames.
