Real Time Sync query

Post by Efe_E »

Hi,

We are looking at using the Real-Time Sync option which states it "watches folders for changed files or the existence of the volume and initiate the profile accordingly. Monitor is active when the scheduler is running"

I was wondering what would happen if a file existed in the folder, but was opened and edited by a user. Would Syncovery allow that file to be copied to the destination folder?

Thanks

Hello,
it depends. Some applications allow access to files while they are open, others do not.

If the file is locked, Syncovery will try to copy it with Volume Shadowing. This works with local drives only (not UNC paths or mapped drive letters).

However, in a real-time scenario, Volume Shadowing is not a good idea. It's not good to create many shadows per day. So I recommend setting the Volume Shadowing choice to "Do not use" in the profile under "Access & Retries".

If you want to completely avoid copying files while they are open, you can use the checkmark "Database-Safe Copying: Enforce Exclusive Access" on the same tab sheet.
