SZ Format

I've just switched from using AQR to Syncovery to backup to OneDrive (I was already using Syncovery for local SFTP backups), I originally chose ARQ for it's encryption features but had a number of issues, hence the switch. I've been doing some testing with encryption options and really like the speed increase of using SZ over zip format (I gained about 1 GB per hour upload speed improvement over zip) , not to mention the reduced writes to my SSD.

When it comes to encryption strength, does Syncovery use salts when generating the SZ AES encryption key, and does it use a different salt for each file it encrypts?

Thanks

Hello,
yes, it uses salts, and a different salt for each file.

The algorithm is the same as the AES-256 encryption in the zip format.

However, if you also use filename encryption, you should know that the salt used in filenames is much shorter. For the tightest security, Filename Encryption should be avoided, as it uses the same password as the content encryption. Moreover, filenames can easily be guessed.
