100% same settings. fails with .sz but not with .zip compression

Post by daiquiri »

Hello,
I'm testing Syncovery 9.13b windows 64bit.

Use case:
1. Same profile fails when encryption is .sz but not when encryption is .zip

Exact same profile, only the compression type changed.

Error:

Code: Select all

Compressed Package transfer error: , code 217
Attached the profile settings.
Attached logs.

(P.S. .sz seems cool, but it is a deal breaker to have a proprietary format)
Attachments
settings.zip
(12.02 KiB) Downloaded 226 times

Hello,
I will check it. Can you also send the log file to support@syncovery.com please?

Yes it is a proprietary format, but I will also soon release a free standalone SzArchiver tool.

Some info is shown here:
https://www.syncovery.com/the-sz-file-format/

Thank you. This makes a huge difference.

Aren't these same features possible with open standards such as zstd or lz4?

Perfect if opensource but if some tool is available seems acceptable.

Hello,
I don't know all open standards but most are not streamable and some that might be streamable don't fulfill my requirements. The main idea was to be able to avoid temporary files and choose very efficient compression algorithms (super fast or super strong, both of which Syncovery offers with sz).

In any case, the decision was made over three years ago ...

Oh ok. thank you so much for your reply.
Nice achievements. My concern of losing access to the data that I'm storing right now in 20 years from now should be more ok with a free tool around.
